Israeli attacks killed Palestinian boxes in northern Gaza during the night, Palestinian health officials said Wednesday, while Israel threatened to increase their military campaign in the enclave despite the growing international pressure.
The bodies of more than 50 people killed during the night had arrived at the Indonesian hospital before Wednesday, according to Marwan Sultan, director of the medical installation in the city of Beit Lahia. He said the children were among the dead and that the more people had a child’s leg.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health also said that some 70 people had been killed on Wednesday, without specifying where. Gaza’s health officials do not distinguish between combatants and civilians when they report death tolls.
Israel has been threatening a massive escalation through the Gaza Strip in an attempt to force Hamas to surrender and free the hostages they have had for more than 18 months. The plan, as described by Israeli leaders, would displace many gazanes who, in some cases, have been forced from their homes or temporary shelters several times since the beginning of the war.
On Wednesday, the Israeli army said in a statement that their forces had hit Hamas and militants of the Islamic Jihad in northern Gaza, and added that he had tried to mitigate the damage to civilians. An Israeli military spokesman warned Gazans in parts of the north of the enclave to flee in front of an imminent attack after rockets were shot against the Israeli territory.
Odai Daama, a 23 -year -old Jabaliya, in the evacuation zone, had not seen the Israeli announcement because he did not have an Internet connection. Around midnight, the strikes began, “hitting houses around us,” he said.
Later in the afternoon, the Israeli army ordered the Palestinians to flee from parts of the city of Gaza, including the Shifa hospital, warning of imminent Israeli attacks. Israeli troops have raided the medical center at least twice the war, with an assault leaving much of the ruins complex.
Montareser Bahja, a teacher who took refuge in an apartment south of the evacuation zone, gave a sigh of relief when he saw that his neighborhood could be saved, at least for now. Like many gazanes, it has moved bone several times the war. His house in the northern city of Jabaliya, Hey, he said, is a lot of debris.
“We can’t flee again. We just can’t. We have fled from house to house and now we are here. It’s enough,” said Mr. Bahja. “We can only expect our neighborhood to stay safe.”
The Trump Administration has been trying to negotiate the end of the 18 -month war, which according to Palestinian health officials have killed more than 50,000 people and took the enclave to the edge of starvation.
After Israel finished a two -month fire with Hamas in March, Israeli forces resumed bombarding the Gaza Strip. The terrestrial forces have also advanced more deeply in the enclave, recovering the areas that had removed the duration of the fire.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or Israel have more recently threatened with an “intensive” escalation in Gaza unless Hamas place their weapons and deliver the hostages it still has. The Israeli army has called thousands of additional soldiers to reinforce the war effort, and the government has promised to take an additional territory there until Hamas fulfills.
Hamas leaders have refused to disarm and have said that they will not free the removal hostages unless Israel ends the war and withdraw from the Gaza Strip.
On Tuesday night, Israeli combat aircraft bombarded the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza in an effort to kill Muhammad Sinwar, one of the main remaining military commanders of the group. The Israeli army said he had attacked a Hamas complex under the European hospital near Khan Younis.
Neether Israel or Hamas have commented publicly if Mr. Sinwar was killed in the bombing.
Israeli officials said they expected to eliminate Mr. Sinwar, one of Hamas’ most uncompromising negotiators, would make the group more flexible on the demands of a truce. But Israel has killed numerous Hamas leaders since the beginning of the war, without forcing the group to accept its terms.
Mr. Sinwar’s older brother, Yahya Sinwar, directed Hamas in Gaza and was one of the main planners of the October 7, 2023 attack to the south of Israel who lit the war. After Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces last year, Muhammad Sinwar assumed a more prominent role within the group.
