The musicians of the National Orchestra of Walesia have accepted a new agreement after a year of negotiations and industrial actions.
The WNO announced last year that it was cutting its spring tour in 2025 along with other measures due to the “increased financial challenges.”
Among those who support a campaign that asks for something to do, included a large number of more famous Wales artists such as Michael Sheen, Katherine Jenkins, Ruth Jones and Sir Bryn Terfel.
While the new agreement protects the work of the members, the unions said that the orchestra would lose approximately 10 vacancies, so the campaign to protect the jobs was ongoing.
The members of Musician’s Union (MU) have been campaigning after the ONV management said it was forced to consider doing the part -time orchestra and reducing the payment of musicians by 15%.
His campaign, which included a sustained industrial action from September to Marchefad both objectives, said MU in a statement.
The Welsh government will also provide additional £ 1.5 million to support artistic organizations, the union said.
Wno is the largest artistic organization of Wales and one of the two full -time professional orchestras in the country.
“This is an incredible moment for the arts in the United Kingdom and the opera sector has been specially affected, with the disproportionate affected and facing significantly continuous financial challenges,” said MU general secretary Naomi Pohl.
The regional organizer of Mu for Wales and the southwest of England Andy Warnock said that the WNO was “still in a fragile position in general.”
Hey added: “It is essential that Wno keep his full -time performance forces, which we know is the objective of the new leadership of the company, so we need politicians and contrary arts in England and Wales to join us for discussions about how that can be a attached.”
