The export of video game controllers from the United Kingdom to Russia has been prohibited, since they can reuse the pilot drones used to launch attacks against Ukraine.
It is part of a package of around 150 commercial sanctions against Russia announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
The European Union enforced a similar prohibition of video games and joysticks earlier this year.
Other technological elements used in defense and energy sectors are among the elements that can no longer be exported to Russia, including software used to search for new oil and gas wells.
Sanctions on exports of chemical, electronic, machinery and metals were also announced to limit Russia’s military capacity.
This includes electronic circuits and other components that can be used in weapons systems.
“Game consoles will no longer be reused to kill in Ukraine,” Foreign Minister Stephen Doughty said.
He added: “Putin thought that British markets could use to boost their war effort, buy harmless goods and turn them into war tools, but the United Kingdom is exposing and acting in this sinister trade.
“Today’s action is squeezed in the Cunning Trade of Russia and depressive Putin of the goods that he desperately needs to fight his barbaric war.”
He added that cutting the energy income of Russia “will drain the Putin war chest.”
“And our new and harsh measures will also degrade the Russian military machine: the new export sanctions mean that Putin will no longer have in their hands the specialized technology used to produce armament for their illegal war.”
The last package is part of broader sanctions in the United States, the United Kingdom and the EU in Russia, in response to its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The sanctions are sanctions imposed by one country in another, to prevent them from acting aggressively or breaking international law.
The United Kingdom also condemned a Russian missile strike against kyiv that killed nine people and wounded boxes during the night on Thursday, a day after Ukrainian, American, the United Kingdom officials and Europe in London to discuss a high fire in Ukraine.
The United Kingdom Foreign Minister David Lammy said in X: “While the Ukrainian ministers were in London working towards peace, [President Vladimir] Putin’s Russia was attacking the Ukrainian people. “
