Metal posts and hoarding collapsed from the library at Stoke Newington Church Street around 7.45 am today (April 16), landing in a car.
While the driver had no chance, those who spoke with the Hackney Gazette said he could have a much worse leg.
Emrah Alagoz, from the Bistro Hall, said: “This time they were lucky. But next time, imagine whether the school was lit and happened then.
“What would happen if it were Saturday? Do you know how many people spend on Saturdays? It’s full. People would do it here.”
His brother, Ali, saw the structure fall on a moving car while he was going to open the store in the morning.
He said: “Some of the neighbors, we tried to lift it, but it was fine to leave himself.
“I was a little surprised, but it just left, it was fine.
“It happened right in front of my eyes. Fortunately, nobody is injured.”
Ibrahim, or Woody’s place on the other side of the road, said: “There was a car that was underneath and they [shopkeepers] He took it out. But it was fine. There are no massive injuries.
“I could have a much worse leg. We are lucky that there is no school today due to Easter.
“Usually, many people are on the road at this time. Very lucky.”
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: “Today they called us at 0743 to a scaffolding report that had collapsed on a road, even in a vehicle, in Stoke Newington Church Street.
“It was reported that a man was potentially trapped inside the vehicle, but the firefighters discovered upon his arrival that he had a leg capable of leaving his vehicle safely.
“He was evaluated in the firefighter scene, but he was not injured.
“There were no reports of any other injury.
“Some local residents have evacuated their legs as a catering and a cord remains in place with a road closure near Albion Road’s crossing.
“Two fire trucks from Stoke Newington and Holloway Fire Stations attended the scene with a fire rescue unit of the Green Green Fire Station.”
