The Brighton Road supermarket was captured in a trial purchase by the Croydon Council Commercial Standards team on August 13, 2024.
The cashier sold a vape to a minor volunteer requesting the identification, an act observed by a commercial standards officer.
The store owner, Ingan Santhirasekaram, declared himself guilty in the Croydon magistrates court to sell a disposable vape to a person under 18.
He had £ 1,461 and ordered paying costs of £ 2,141.88 and a £ 584 victim surcharge, which takes the total to £ 4,186.88.
Before the crime, Mr. Santhirasekaram was invited by Croydon’s commercial standards to a free training session session to prevent sales of minors, but did not attend.
He was also informed that a test purchase exercise would be carried out within the next three months.
The Council is taking energetic measures against minor sales as part of the priority of executive mayor Jason Perry to make Croydon clean, safer and healthier.
The sale of vapo to children is a concern due to potential damage based on nicotine addiction.
Mr. Perry said: “This prosecution is another great result of our award -winning transmissions team that are working hard to protect our residents.
“We want to work with all companies in Croydon to help them operate within the law and urge companies to assume our free training and guidance sacrifice.
The health of “protecting residents”, along with helping legitimate businesses, is really important, so contact us if you suspect that illegal trade. ”
