The Royal Navy ships based in Plymouth and Portsmouth were deployed to track Russian warships through the British waters this week, said a navy spokesman.
HMS St Albans, based in Plymouth, a type 23 frigate, monitored Admiral Golovoko while sailing east through the La Mancha channel and launched a Merlin helicopter to collect air information.
Portsmouth -based patrol ship, HMS Mersey, tracked RFN Soobrazitelny while sailing west.
The officer in command of HMS Alban, CDR Matt Tare, said that the “regularity of Russian activity around the United Kingdom reinforces the vital importance of continuous integration with our allies and partners.”
The HMS Albans also participated in a three -day operation to monitor the Russian stereged corvette Stoikiy at the beginning of this month, the Navy said.
CDR said the frigate “is very high to operate when and wherever, the nation needs us in the protection of our home and the surrounding waters.”
He added that he was “extremely proud” or the professionalism of his crew and “tireless dedication to keep our nation safe.”
Meanwhile, Patrol HMS Mersey, based in Portsmouth, tracked RFN Soobrazitelny when the Corvette sailed west, with the support of Royal Fleet Auxiliary Tanker Rfa Tidesurge.
The Russian oil tanker Kola was also monitored in the same direction in an effort coordinated with the Joint Maritime Security Center.
