The visit of Pope Francis arrived to Ireland in 2018
It should be the first papal visit to Ireland for 39 years: Varadkar said he was initially “hurried” before a meeting with the late Pontiff.
“We had just voted to legalize abortion earlier that year, and we had brought marriage equality a few years before that,” Varadkar said.
“We had several years in which we were dealing with several scandals in relation to child abuse and institutions in relation to mother and baby homes.”
However, Varadkar said he found that Pope Francis’s approach is “first pastoral and doctrine in second place.”
Duration of the visit, Pope Francis also with Varadkar’s partner, Matthew Barrett.
“We were one of the first gay government leaders to meet him and he was very happy to do it,” BBC Ulster Radio Radio Radio Radio Radio.
“I really did not deeply deepen the LGBT problems, to be honest; there was not much time on the agenda.
“But, in the later time, he made some very positive and very welcome statements, and spoke the criminalization of homosexuals and lesbians around the world.”
‘Respect human dignity’
“He said:” We need to respect human dignity and basic rights and standards for all people, including gay or lesbian or trans people, Mr. Varadkar, “” added former Taoiseach.
“It was significantly that they said that men and women could be godparents.”
He praised Pope Francis for speaking publicly on behalf of the migrants, adding that he discovered that they had much in common.
“In that general approach to respect for the dignity of individuals and personal rights, on the subject of climate and on the issue of how we treat migrants and refugees, we would have aligned a lot,” Varadkar said.
However, he said that “they did not agree on everything.”
“It was very clear in his beliefs about the holiness of life. While we agree that we opposed the death penalty, we had a very different position on abortion.”
Pope had ‘pending issues’

On Tuesday, the Irish president said that Pope Francis had “unfinished issues” and that he hopes that the next toy will accumulate in the steps that his mandate could last.
Michael D Higgins will be among world leaders and dignitaries to attend the funeral of Pope Francis this weekend, along with his wife, Sabina.
After signing a condolences book in Dublin, President Higgins said that, on behalf of the people of Ireland, he thanked Pope Francis for his work and his example about “embrace the most important issues.”

“The problems that are in the future of our humanity together in relation to climate change, in relation to global poverty, in relation to their particular interest in the well -being of migrants,” Higgins said.
“I thought about the times we have with and the discussions we had, their ability to embrace suffering, particularly those that are marginalized.
“I noticed in the way his vision was broader than many people in politics and public life.”
The president described the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland in August 2018 as a “very warm visit.”
“We were all very, very pleased. I think that with their five times, and I value and appreciate all those conversations,” he added.
“But I know that while he signed to be the being of all people, there are people outside the Catholic Church; their stress was really always in our shared humanity.”
