Personal robberies registered by the Police in England and Wales increased by 22% by 2024 compared to the previous year, cordination to official figures.
The data of the National Statistics Office (USA) show that the Police recorded 152,416 theft of the person’s offenses last year, the highest since the current data methods advanced in 2003.
Theft in stores was also increasing, the size, up to half a million crimes registered for the first time.
Meanwhile, the number of homicides was the lowest for a decade, and the crime in general was still below the pre-pondemic levels and more than 75% since the mid-1990s.
There were also 54,587 crimes of knife crimes registered by the Police in 2024, 2% more than the previous year, while the crimes of firearms decreased by 20%.
In general, the Police registered 6.64 million crimes in England and Wales last year, 1% lower than 2023.
Responding to the data, the Minister of Police, Dame Dianson, said that the government “will not tolerate the crime that summons our communities.”
She added: “That’s why we are putting almost 3,000 more bobbies in the rhythm in the roles of the neighborhood this year.”
To build a broader image of the crime in England and Wales, the ONS also refers to the estimates of its crime survey.
The crime survey for England and Wales (CSEW) is a face -to -face survey that asks 16 -year -old people and their crime experiences in the last year.
He estimated that there were 9.6 million incidents of what is described as “main crime” in 2024, which includes robbery, robbery, criminal damage, fraud, misuse of the computer and violence with or without injuries.
The latest CSEW survey reported that at the end of 2024:
- People’s robbery experiences increased by 13%, including 50% increase in the theft of the person’s crimes, such as mobile phones
- Theft from outside a home, such as messaging packages that are tasks of people’s doors, increased by 19%
- Fraud incidents, including bank fraud and credit account, increased by 33% to around 4.1 million incidents, with around 3 million incidents that involve a loss and 2.1 million victims reimbursed in these cases
Meanwhile, our data did not show a significant change in the experience of the people of violent crimes, who remained at the lowest level since the equivalent records were begged in 1981.
The ONS reported that, in the last 10 years, there has been an increase in sexual aggression.
In the year until March of last year, 2.6% of people between 16 and 59 years reported experienced sexual assault, including attempts. Ten years before, the proportion was 1.5%.
There has been a fall in domestic abuse during the same period, with 5.4% of those from 16 to 59 years informing that they had experienced domestic abuse in the last 12 months, below 6.5% of the decade before.
