
The original Coronation Street star, Philip Lowrie, died at age 88.
Lowrie, who appeared in the first episode of the ITV soap in 1960 as Dennis Tanner’s original body, died Friday, said Mario Renzullo publicist.
“My client and very dear friend, Philip Lowrie, the beloved actor recognized for his role as Dennis Tanner at Coronation Street, died yesterday,” he said.
“His death marks the end of an era for the oldest soap in the world, where he became a cornerstone of his narrative.”
Lowrie was born in Ashton-down-Lyne, Greater Manchester.

When the soap begins more than six decades ago, Lowrie’s character was seen as a national pink thanks to his broken role.
Dennis was presented as the son of Elsie Tanner, and moved to his mother after being released from prison.
Lowrie had originally audicited for the role of Ken Barlow before the launch of the program, and appeared in the first episode at the age of 24.
William Roache was soon chosen as Ken for the beginning of the soap and became a regular Dennis combat partner.
He left the street in 1968, when he married Jenny Sutton and moved to Bristol, and did not return until 2011.
Murdered
According to Mr. Renzullo, Lowrie appeared in September 2011 with a Guinness World Records certificate for being the person with the greatest gap between television appearances as the same character in the same program.
Dennis soon got in touch with the news agent Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox), who was her girlfriend when she first appeared in the show in 1966, and married when she returned.
He left the soap again in 2014 and was then killed without making another appearance on the screen.
Varied race
Lowrie’s mother kept her rates to go to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) in London after leaving school.
After graduating three years later, he soon received his first parts in the West End, appearing with Dame Margaret Rutherford and Peggy Mount in Farwell, Farewell, Eugene.
