Old Kent Road will close temporarily for the safe transport of a Super Grid transformer.
The road will be closed between Devon Street and Ruby Street from 9 pm to 9 pm from Saturday to Monday to guarantee security.
The traffic will deviate through Queen’s Road (A202), Camberwell Road (A215) and New Kent Road (A201), with signs instead to guide the road users.
The recommended detour routes to access Old Kent Road from both directions will be in place that change the closure.
Residents and local businesses have been notified of the closing and diversion of the planned road
The transformer is established for delivery in Southwark to reinforce the capital’s electricity network.
The delivery to a new cross substation is part of the £ 1 billion tunnels 2 of London Tunnels.
The transformer will be delivered to the entrance of the substation from the port of Tilbury under the police escort.
The transport expert Allyys will maneuver the device in a specialized vehicle.
Kannan Mahalingam, project manager in the London Power Tunnels 2 project, said: “A lot of work is dedicated to these deliveries of essential equipment to ensure that they are archived with a minimum interruption.
“Our teams have legs closely working with local and road authorities to guarantee an operation without problems.
“We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the local community while the work is carried out.”
The 90 -mile route will be from the Tilbury docks in the direction of the clock needles around the M25 (with an M20 and M26) to Union 10, towards the northeast in the A3 through Wandworth and Lambeth.
And Onard through Southwark to the site of the substation at Old Kent Road.
