Almost 350,000 nursing employees in England, Wales and Ireland del Norte who vote from Monday with a salary increase of 3.6%will be asked.
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has already dismissed the prize as a “grotesque” and says that the vote will be crucial to determine the next steps that could include a vote for the strike.
The government says that, as a result of the salary increase, nurses will win more than £ 30,000 as a new holder for the first time.
A bitter salary dispute saw nurses attacking in England, Wales and Northern Ireland since the late 2022 and during the winter, with some members of other health unions that organize strikes on payment.
With the possibility of another round of industrial action that is coming, the vote is announced as the greatest vote by the professional ever released in the United Kingdom.
The ministers in England, Wales and Ireland of the North announced payment awards after the recommendations of the body review.
There was an average increase of 5.4% in doctors, previously known as Junior doctors, 4% for consultants and other higher doctors, and 3.6% for nurses and other health workers.
The general secretary of RCN, Professor Nicola Ranger, said that the government had “once more breastfeeding in the back of the tail when it comes to paying.”
“Nursing is an incredible career, but despite being the most valued professional, we continually weigh at the end of the NHS salary scale and will receive one of the lowest payment awards.”
According to Mrs. Ranger, nursing staff in England has endured “approximately a decade of salary erosion”, which has resulted in a number of “nurses who renounce.”
“It is time to demonstrate that nurses are valued and, as of today, hundreds of thousands of nursing staff who work in the NHS will give their verdict about whether 3.6% is sufficient,” Ranger will say.
Patricia Marquis, Executive Director of RCN England, told the BBC Radio 4 program that the vote was a consultation on the payment award and not a strike vote at this stage.
The Department of Health and Social Care, which covers England, said that the salary increase on the table was the second increase in inflation above NHS personnel in the last 10 months.
“We have accepted the payment recommendations as a whole because we value the contribution of all NHS professionals to patient care,” said a spokesman.
“We cannot undo a decade and a half or negligence in less than a year, but together with the NHS staff, this government is reconstructing its salary and rebuilding our health service.”
Doctors residing in England are already being fenced in a strike on payment. Other health unions are organizing votes in the payment awards.
All this can throw a shadow on a 10 -year government plan for NHS in England that expires in the coming weeks.
The Scottish government has already agreed a two -year salary sacrifice with health unions.
