Archive Video The images of a military plane that gets to land on a recently built Lancashire highway before bones have later released after half a century.
The test pilot Tim Ferguson used the M55 as an impromptu track on April 26, 1975 to show that the Jaguar plane, loaded with four missiles, could successfully land on a road and take off from one.
People gathered nearby and watched with amazement as the test pilot of the British aircraft corporation, which later became a British Aerospace Plc, completed its flight visit from Warton Aeródome to the recent section of highways built in Know, near Backpool.
The M55 was officially opened to regular motorists, a few weeks later.
The highway and Autoshenigans Youtuber Jon Jefferson said that everything happened at the Blackpool end of the new highway.
He told BBC Radio Lancashire: “All my research led me to the knowledge bridge that crosses the M55 near knowing it.
“I think that was where the plane supplied again. That is the precise place where everything happened.”
