Lloyd Jones has praised the mentality of Charlton Athletic players, since they matched a club record with their twentieth clean sheet of the season in Monday’s 4-0 victory on Wycombe.
Addiction’s vice-chapitan puts Addices on his way to Buckinghamshire when he first produced an end for the first time of the left-wing cross of Greg Docherty.
But just as important was the way Jones completely turned off the threat of Wycombe Richard Kone striker, third in the lists of the League one with 18 goals.
The previous three times that Charlton collected 20 bleached that won the promotion-1980-81, 1997-98 and 2011-12, and established a new better if they stay out of Wrexham Tomorrow Albion on the last day.
“It means a lot,” said Jones, asked about matching the record.
“Specialage that came out of the back of last season that we do not stay close to enough clean sheets.
“To change that and have that mental strength of the objectives of not sending, I am really proud of the team and the defensive unit for doing so.
“It was a very good day (in Wycombe). To score four and maintain a clean sheet, you can’t ask much better.”
“When we score first, we are a really difficult side to break after that. Therefore, the first goal in the type of games is crucial.”
Charlton quickly doubled his advantage when Luke Berry hit Jones again involved when his header from a small Thierry cross was only halfway.
“What an end,” said Jones. “It was right next to it: the ball gave me my face. He can do that, it’s so good to finish and we see it all the time in training.
“Every time he receives such a shot, he almost supported him more to score than the lady.”
Matty Godden and Karoy Anderson accumulated misery with goals in the second half.
“We said in the half time we were 2-0 again in Wycombe at home and let them return to the game,” Jones said. “We want to go out and get the third goal, not just be a defensive team when we advance.”
