Prime Minister Michelle O’Neill has said that it was a “great honor” to be at the funeral of Pope Francis, who represents “all those people at home towards him for spiritual leadership.”
O’Neill, who interrupted a family vacation to attend, said it was a “great historical moment.”
She said Pope Francis had been “admired by so many, including myself.”
Prime Minister Emma Little-Penegelly did not attend the funeral.
Speaking to the BBC News or after the funeral, O’Neill called Pope Francis “a man of humility, a man who practiced what he preached and was very much on the side of the marginalized and Pooor, who spoke against the injustice he did.”
