On Saturday, August 30, 2025, a fire started at the Shree Sorathia Prajapati Community Centre in Ilford, East London, right after a Hindu festival.
The fire on Cleveland Road began soon after the Ganapati Visarjan celebration. What was supposed to be a happy day turned bad when the building caught fire. The London Fire Brigade got there fast. The center is ruined, but thankfully, everyone made it out okay.Emergency services got 14 calls and sent six fire trucks with about 40 firefighters. A ladder truck from Dagenham also came to help. Firefighters got the fire under control by 9:21 pm, and no one was hurt.
Redbridge Council told people living nearby to stay away from the area and keep their windows shut. Police saw the fire early and called the fire brigade right away.People think fireworks from the Ganapati celebration may have caused the fire. Officials don’t think someone set it on reason, and they are working to figure out what happened.
Jas Athwal, the MP for Ilford South, was happy the emergency teams responded so quickly. He said keeping everyone safe is the most important thing, especially because a recent arson at a nearby Indian restaurant had already made people worried. The community is sad about the fire but thankful to the emergency services for acting fast. They plan to discuss fixing the center soon.
