Elise Harlock, prestige flowers brand manager, said: “Hydration is key to maintaining newly cut lilies for a longer time, but water acidity is also important. Also a touch of lemon juice can reduce water pH, which helps absorb water more easily and maintain them.
“Lemon water is a healthy drink for humans, but many do not realize that it can also have benefits for flowers. A vitamin C tablet crushed in the vase can also be effective.”
If you house a lemon at home, you can collect one for 30p in Morrisons.
Like many flowers, lilies absorb more effective water in an acidic environment that helps them stay hydrated and fresh for longer and keeps the growth of bacteria at bay.

Why do flowers want?
“One of the greatest culprits behind withered flowers is bacteria. When vases suffer from bacteria accumulation, it can block vascular flower voice systems. This avoids the absorption of water and nutrients and causes the petals to fall and leaves to the leaves.”
“Reducing pH maintains the clearest vase water, the growth of harmful bacteria is reduced, maintaining clear stems and expanding the useful life of its flowers.”
Elise also recommends refreshing water in the vase two or three days and cutting stems at an angle of 45 degrees to improve water absorption.

She added: “Direct sunlight can be too hard in the flowers, so if you want to keep its bouquet as long as possible, place them somewhere fresh and shaded.
“Reducing the voice can also extend the useful life of its lilies. Around time, the cuts cut from the flowers can be blocked by air bubbles that can block the water and nutrients that access the flower.
“Half -inch cut of your voice after a few days to expose a fresh surface to absorb water.”
