The Epping Forest District Council said he has received reports from a person who contacted premises with license throughout the country who claims to be a licensed officer, and knows an incident that recently occurs in the Empiping forest district.
The person called from a mobile phone, which was passed as fraud as a licensed officer, claiming that the annual tariff of the premises license is due and providing details of the bank account for the IMEDIATED PAYMENT.
The Council warned companies that “remain vigilant” and said that the licenses team will always send reminder letters for annual rates, which include clear instructions for payment.
A Board spokesman said: “If you receive a phone call from someone who claims to be a licensed officer and request the IMEDATED PAYMENT, do not make the payment and communicate directly with our licenses team.”
The Council has also issued tips on what to do if you receive a suspicious call.
This includes not giving personal information to an organization or person before identifying their credentials, communicating with the direct use of the organization on its official website and informing a suspicious call or a message to action fraud by calling the tool tool.
