IQair’s new data revealed air quality in areas of the entire United Kingdom in 2024.
Croydon was located at number 8 of the IQair list in areas with the air quality of sausages in the United Kingdom.
Air quality refers to the condition of air and pollutants, pollutants and other factors that can affect human health and the environment.
In this case, Croydon has a high level of participation subject (PM2.5)
The data showed that in each month of 2024, Croydon exceeded the recommended world health organizations 5 μg/m³ (micrograms per cubic meter).
The micrograms refer to small parts of pollution in the air.
In 2023, Croydon had an average or 8.8 μg/m³.
In January 2024, the levels of participated matter reached 11.45 μg/m³, and was the second highest for the year.
In February, the levels fell to 7.7μg/m³, before jumping to 10.7μg/m³ in March.
In April, the level of private matter fell significantly to 5.5 μg/m³/m³ and was the lowest and close to the recommended level of the World Health Organization of 5 μg/m³.
In May, the levels almost doubled at 10.1g/m³.
This may be due to the increase in traffic and warmer climatic conditions, which can contribute to the accumulation of air pollutants.
The levels fell to 9.4 μg/m³ in June and further fell to 5.5 μg/m³.
The decrease may be linked to improved climatic conditions, reduction in the duration of school vacations or short -term changes in local industrial activity.
But in August, the levels began to increase, reaching 8.5 μg/m³.
In September, the levels fell slightly to 8.5 μg/m³, and retreated slightly up to 8.5 μg/m³ in October.
In November, Croydon registered its sausage air quality of the year, with levels of private matter with 14.4 μg/m³, almost the triple of July.
The spike can be attributed to the coldest climate, which causes greater use of heating, heavier traffic and events such as the night of the bonfire, which contribute significantly to short -term air pollution through fireworks and open burning.
In the Christmas season, the levels fell to more than half of what were in November to 7.1g/m³.
The general average of private matter in 2024 was 9.4 μg/m³.
A spokesman for the IQair Environmental Research Group said: “Or all air pollution measures, PM2.5 contamination raises the greatest threat to health.
“PM2.5 particles are so small that they can only be seen with an electronic microscope.
”
“PM2.5 Causes environmental damage in several ways, such as the damage of materials and buildings, acid deposition and increased ozone levels.
“PM2.5 Pollution can travel long distances through strong winds, up to hundreds of thousands of miles from its source.
“PM2.5 can be taken to coastal waters and river basins, where they change the balance of nutrients.
“When contamination part is established in crops and forests, it can damage the vegetation.
“People can help limit private matter emissions in their own lives.
“The actions that can be tasks include conducting less frequently, improving the efficiency of electricity and fuel, and limiting burning of wood or garbage, among innumerable other actions. “
