Nottingham striker Forest Taiwo Awoniyi underwent urgent surgery on Monday night after suffering a serious abdominal injury in Sunday’s game against Leicester.
The Nigeria international collided with the post-afternoon post in the Forest Premier League 2-2 raffle with its East Midlands rivals in City Ground.
Surgery was urgently required to treat the nature of the injury, which the PA news agency understands that it is not Threating.
Awoniyi tried to continue after receiving several minutes of treatment, but the scope of the injury was discovered when medical staff treated him on Monday.
The incident was the source of the frustration of evangelos Marinakis, who saw the owner of the storm forest in the countryside and face the chief Nuno Espirito Santo after the game.
Awoniyi returned to action, but he could not move correctly, since Forest pursued a late goal that would have been vital for his hopes of the Champions League, and Marinakis was unhappy a replacement was not made.
To worsen things, the incident, where Leicester’s midfielder, Facundo Buonanotte, also collided with the erect, happened after Anthony Elanga allowed him to advance in the goal, despite being clearly out of play.
The game continued after the assistant Sian Massey-Elis delayed his flag, with both players colliding with the post at speed.
It was a disappointing day forest, whose hopes of the Champions League suffered a great blow.
They are no longer in charge of their own destiny. Winning its last two games, including a final meeting of the day with Chelsea, may not be enough unless Aston Villa, Manchester City or Newcastle fall on the road.
However, they are sure of at least one place in the league of the conference, which will see them play European football for the first time since 1995-96.
