The Heffield United Chief, Chris Wilder, believes that this is the year in which his team can “make history” at the end of finally his play-off ludoo in the tenth attempt.
The Blades reserved their place in the final of the championship with a semifinal demolition Bristol City record, with the victory added 6-0 as the largest winning margin in the history of the play-off.
Kieffer Moore’s goals, Gus Hamer and Callum O’Hare won a 3-0 victory in the second lego in their homeland four days after their victory for the same score in Aston Gate.
No team has lost more times in the play-off than the nine losing campaigns of Blades, which include three losses in the championship final.
Wilder, who is looking at a third promotion as Blades manager, says that the misery of previous play-off, in which he has not participated, does not count for anything.
“I don’t feel a negativity due to our previous campaigns,” he said. “It feels (as if there) a freshness about it … a true belief that we can make history and bed all that, other things have continued before.
“I think I have witnessed (the) majority.
“It is not easy to return directly. It is not simple. And we push and push the whole season.
“We obtained 92 points, because two teams to reach 100 points is a crazy season.
“Then we had to have the challenges of the narrative of being the team that has approached so much. But, but how do they handle it?
“The narrative also of the history of Sheffield United’s play-off and things like that, so we had to make sure we were right.
“We had to be good tonight, we had everything to lose. The first objective would always be a great goal.
“We had to play well and do many things well during the two games to get to the final.”
Bristol City enjoyed his best league campaign in almost 20 years, but ultimately they could not match a team, they finished 22 points on the table on both legs.
Chief Liam Manning said: “It was a difficult game tonight, obviously leaving the back of the first leg.
“The message was quite clear, we had to leave everything out there. We started well but finally (there was) a lack of conviction and quality in the box.
“Credit to Sheffield United, they are doing it, it is not easy, they definitely deserve it on both legs.
“We have to use it to improve.”
