The Federal Trade Commission has delayed the start of a rule that aims to make the process of canceling subscriptions less of a nightmare. Last year, the FTC voted to ratify amendments to a regulation known as the Negative Option Rule, adding a new “click-to-cancel” rule that requires companies to be upfront about the terms of subscription signups and prohibits them “from making it any more difficult for consumers to cancel than it was to sign up.” Surprising no one, telecom companies were not happy, and sued the FTC. Creating a space that feels relaxed and inviting can really set the tone for intentional living, whether you want to converse, hang out or take an afternoon snooze. In the latest blow to what was generally a functional government, President Donald Trump wants to eliminate the independent agency in charge of issuing recalls and protecting US citizens from harmful products. The Office of Management and Budget has suggested the responsibilities of the Consumer Product Safety Commission should be folded into “a nonexistent division within the Department of Health and Human Services,” according to a joint letter from lawmakers. It’s Teacher Appreciation Week — a time when educators often receive apples, mugs and gift cards from students and their families. But union leaders say that, for many teachers, the outpouring of gratitude has not made up for the financial hardships and pressures they face the rest of the year. For years, K-12 teachers have dealt with multiple challenges at underfunded schools, such as low salaries, large class sizes and unreimbursed out-of-pocket costs for student supplies and snacks.
