Tina Kotek released a video assuring Oregonians that Donald Trump would not derail the progressive state’s efforts to combat climate change. As promised during his presidential campaign, Trump had issued executive orders during his first week in office aimed at halting new sources of wind power and freezing Biden-era funding for renewable energy. JetBlue decked out one of its planes with a Dunkin’ Donuts-themed livery. The orange and pink-painted plane was revealed by the two companies on Monday in Boston, a significant city for JetBlue’s operations and not far from the coffee and donut chain’s headquarters. The aircraft is an Airbus A320 called “Brewing Altitude,” the companies said. In addition to the orange and pink paint job, its tail sports a “playful donut and coffee motif,” according to a press release. JETBLUE ACCEPTING VENMO FOR FLIGHTS The special livery, the companies said, is meant to commemorate the partnership that JetBlue and Dunkin’ have…
Ever since we got these pro landscaping tips on how to design a gorgeous outdoor space, I’ve been thinking about planting a garden. The bad news is that I live on the third floor of a loft space so I’m stuck in daydream mode. For now, my plans are relegated to constantly looking up Pinterest garden ideas. Of course, inspiration abounds. Luckily for me, I have several friends with big backyard spaces—and I’m hoping they’ll let me live vicariously through their landscaping endeavors or maybe even help out with some planting. We’ll see. To get my creative juices flowing, I…
Jamie Lee Curtis is the latest celebrity to call attention to scam ads on Facebook and Instagram that use AI-manipulated video to hawk sketchy products. Curtis also appears to have encountered another issue familiar to many Facebook users: struggling to get the company’s attention. In posts on Facebook and Instagram, the actress asked Mark Zuckerberg to intervene to stop the spread of a “totally AI fake commercial” of her. “My name is Jamie Lee Curtis and I have gone through every proper channel to ask you and your team to take down this totally AI fake commercial for some bullshit…
The outlook for federal spending on education research continues to be grim. That became clear last week with more cutbacks to education grants and mass firings at the National Science Foundation (NSF), the independent federal agency that supports both research and education in science, engineering and math. A fourth round of cutbacks took place on May 9. NSF observers were still trying to piece together the size and scope of this wave of destruction. A division focused on equity in education was eliminated and all its employees were fired. And the process for reviewing and approving future research grants was…
By LINDA RIDDELL & THOMAS WILSON Recent discussions over Medicaid budget cuts invite us to look more deeply into the house-of-cards that, when it collapses, will hit the states and low-income households hardest. But we will all be harmed. Some states get 80% of their Medicaid funding from the federal government, as a recent Wall Street Journal article, “Medicaid Insures Millions of Americans. How the Health Program Works, in Charts” pointed out. Even states relying less on federal funds will be hard pressed to shift their resources to replace the federal share. The ripple effects are clear: states are likely…
Like life itself, there is no chart. No degree. No prerequisite that somehow makes one able to ace the journey that is motherhood. It’s as unique as the soul you’re stewarding, a role that singularly splits a person in two and in that uniqueness lies its commonality. Sharing the experience of being a mother can be a lifeline when you’re in it—or even just considering it. Motherhood can also look a million different ways. Such is the gift of books. This collection of motherhood books runs the gamut, highlighting how the role of Mom is one realized in an instant,…
President Donald Trump is leveraging the power of the American economy to open China to U.S. exporters as Washington and Beijing work toward a potential trade deal, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on “Fox News Sunday.” When asked about the ripple effect that Trump’s tariffs are having on dockworkers, the trucking industry and others, Lutnick asked them to remember that “this is just a China problem right now.” Lutnick referenced the 145% tariff Trump put on Chinese imports and the 125% duties China slapped on U.S. imports in retaliation. “Those tariffs are too high to do business, but that’s why…
Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a small but welcome convenience feature with iOS 19: cross-device syncing for Wi-Fi access portals. This is according to the latest Power On newsletter from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The feature would address the annoyance of having to individually fill out pop-up forms to access public Wi-Fi on all your devices, like when you’re at a hotel. According to Gurman, “This new feature will let you enter that information on one device and have it synced to your other products.” It’s one of several upcoming features Apple may show off at its Worldwide Developers Conference, which…
