This decision was taken by the Executive of the Islington Council on Thursday, April 24 in response to the economic uncertainty and the strong opposition of the community.
The plans would have the construction of about 200 houses along with a new leisure center and a medical center on the site of the Leisure de Bury center.
However, the Council decided to withdraw these plans after listening to Conerns from the public and considering the risks involved.
The leader of the Council, an O’Halloran, said: “It is no secret that the advice of the whole country face important financial challenges, and although Islington is on a solid financial feet, I am not prepared to put a project in Jonopardy for the variety of Mar Byseardardy Bycehaedard Bycehaedardy for the content that changes the global forces beyond our control.
“This was not an easy decision.
“Since I became a leader in November, I have spent a lot of time visiting the site, listening to local people and consulting the risks faced by this project, and I have decided that they are different ways of building genuinely affordable houses in our municipality
Instead of redevelopment, the Council plans to modernize the existing leisure center, protect and improve sports releases, and consider the creation of a new health center in the neighborhood.
The Council will also seek to build more genuinely affordable homes in other parts of the municipality.
The decision to withdraw the plans was well received by EC1Voices, a community group that has challenged the financial assumptions of the Council on the plans.

He asked for a formal guarantee that football releases, which have the subject of three abortive attempts to build since 2007, would be protected in the long term.
Cllr O’Halloran responded by promising a formal statement of intention to protect the releases.
The updated commitment of the Council establishes that it will invest to modernize the existing leisure center, protect and improve sports releases, and consider a new health center in the neighborhood.
This decision ends 18 years of uncertainty for the site of the Finnbury Leisure Center.
It means that the planning application for the project will be withdrawn, and alternative options will be developed to invest in existing facilities.
CLLR O’HALLORAN added: “Our commitment to build new genuinely affordable social homes remains without incident, and we will analyze alternative sites that are already in the early stages of development throughout the municipality.
The advice of the Council to withdraw the plans for the site of the Finnbury Leisure Center was taken at the same meeting where the plans to close the Highbury quadrant and the primary schools of ST Jude & st Paul agreed.
Councilor O’Halloran said that these were “incredible incredible decisions”, but believed they were in the best interest of the municipality.
Ec1voices says that he hopes to work constructive with the advice to safeguard the releases and protect the open space for future generations.
