Lawrence was stabbed until death on April 22, 1993, in an unprovured and racially motivated attack while waiting for a bus in Eltham, after a gang of young people shouted racial insults and soft weapons.
But he played almost 20 years for Mr. Lawrence’s family to see justice after the brutal attack, after the police admitted that “many mistakes” were made in the initial investigation.
Here is a look at the tragic case, police failures and the result of the investigation.
Who has an imprisoned bone?
Only two or the murderers of Mr. Lawrence have faced justice, after David Norris and Gary Dobson were imprisoned for life in 2012.
Gary Dobson is one of the two jailed men Norris, 48, was imprisoned for a minimum of 14 years and three months for murder in January 2012 at the end of a former Bailey trial that depended on small traces of forensic evidence.
He is ready to face his first probation hearing on a date that has not yet been solved, and on Thursday the probation board granted a request for the audience to be a hero in public.
David Norris is one of the two jailed menHowever, three other men were identified by the Police in relation to the attack, including the brothers Neil and Jamie Acourt and Luke Knight.
But despite being appointed as suspects, the three were never convicted of the murder.
However, the Court brothers have fulfilled time in jail for drug trafficking.
Sixth suspicious
In June 2023, the Metropolitan Police declared that Matthew White, who died in 2021 at the age of 50, was an important suspect at the time after the murder.
He had been arrested twice for the murder, but both occasions there were not enough evidence for prosecution.
White’s identification occurred after a BBC investigation that said he had a central role in the case.
Great failures
The original research on the death of Mr. Lawrence was hindered by institutional racism in the Metropolitan Police, and states that corrupt officers had tried to protect Norris, whose father Clifford Norris was a notorious drug trafficker.
Police also reported that he investigated blank, with problems such as officers entering the incorrect information about him in a database and the police did not follow an advantage after suspicions of his role in the murder.
White’s family and another witness also informed the Police that he admitted to having participated in the murder.
April 22 marks the anniversary of the death of Stephen Lawrence Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley apologized to Mother’s Baroness from Mr. Lawrence, Doreen Lawrence, for not fulfilling a promise to answer the questions of a BBC investigation into the murder.
The BBC said Lady Lawrence was promised an explanation after the station called Matthew White as sixth suspect.
Sir Mark said: “We recognize that this is a particularly dissemination moment for the Lawrence and Duwayne Brooks family. I regret that our lack of response to this has been added to this.” In addition to failures over the decades, this is totally YPT. ”
