A controlled explosion has been carried out in a park in Derbyshire after reports that close ammunition had been found.
Derbantshire police said the officers were called to Elm Avenue, in Sandiacre, Sunday about the reports of the discovery of ammunition.
A cord was in place and several houses in the area were evacuated while the article was secured safely, the force added.
The Army Explosive Artillery Unit destroyed the article in a controlled explosion in West Park on Long Eaton.
“People who live nearby may have heard a strong blow, but we would like to assure you that there is no reason to alarm,” said a police spokesman.
“The residents who were asked to temporarily leave their homes from their legs have allowed us to return.”
Police have not elaborated the nature of the article, or specifically the number of evacuated houses.
