A vehicle crashed into two other vehicles in Wickham Road at the crossroads with Shirley Road around 8.45 pm on April 18.
Two 61 -year -old men were arrested on suspicion of being transported in a stolen vehicle.
One of these was also arrested under suspicion of being in possession of class A drugs and both remain in police custody.
Patrol Police had followed a vehicle that had suspended by having cloned numbers, trying to stop it on South Norwood street six minutes before the accident
The suspect vehicle was not stopped for the police that led to a chase of a letter before the fatal accident.
The driver his vehicle, a 63 -year -old man, died despite the officers gave him CPR.
His relatives have been informed.
Six others were tasks to the hospital by ambulance with one of the issues in a life condition.
R With the police spokesman said: “The MET Professional Standards Directorate was immediately informed and a derivation was carried out to the Independent Police Conduct Office (IAPC) Whatich is a required step every time vehicles are involved in a Dath.
“The IAPC will now carry out an independent investigation.”
A spokesman for the London ambulance service said: “They called us at 8:47 pm on April 18 for reports of a traffic collision near the Junction or Wickham Road and Shirley Road in Croydon.
“We send multiple resources to the scene, including ambulance equipment, incident response officers, members of our Dangerous Area (Hart) response team and an advanced paramedic. We also send the London Air Ambulance.
“We treat seven patients on the scene. Unfortunately, a person was declared dead on the scene. We took a patient to an important trauma center and tok five patients to hospitals.”
