Nathan Jones acknowledges that Charlton Athletic owners now have a revitalized football club in their hands, compared to the state of affairs when he entered the valley.
The American duo Joshua Friedman and Gabriel Brener, the two main shareholders in the Southern London attire, were in the 2-1 victory of today over Northhampton Town with their families of respect.
Charlton will be in the play-offs of the League one at the end of the season with the victory this afternoon guaranteeing an end among the top six. There is still a small possibility of the second place of automatic promotion.
Jones was designated as Michael Appleton’s successor 15 months ago and has reached the objective of the first six that was established before a ball was kicking in August.
“In the house it was the minimum,” said the Welshman. “Charlton’s size in League one, and so on (he was expected). But you have to understand that we were 18th in the League one. Now we are fourth. That is the work of some year. I do not say that of me. Of the whole football club
“If we constantly have that progression, do we imagine where we are going to be in four or five years?
“When I touched in Luton, they gave me the time and passed from League two to the Premier League in almost the period that was there. I took them to the main league, but the bases were a cover. Everything.
“I am very, very proud of that because many things have to do well. People have to be good in what they do.
“I talk to them (the owners) regularly anyway. It is good to see them. A year ago, they now have a different animal from a football club to take care. We are very proud of that.”
You could see Jones breathing deeply the closing stages of the victory over Northhampton. Luke Berry and Matty Godden scored the goals when Charlton went to 79 points.
“For anyone who has been administered or wanted to achieve, to be honest, I am someone who is at the limit anyway, in terms of things, it is exhausting to be a manager,” he said. “Driving something and really wanting something.
“It is a precarious job and a wonderful rewarding work, but sometimes you need to breathe and think clearly. Let (the players) continue with him, they are well prepared. So I left and sat in the forces, I escaped, escaped, escaped me.
“Any person with a doubtful heart, high blood pressure or something, advises him to never enter the management.”
