The fans of wildlife photographers have been going mass to a park in the north of Belfast to detect a new tropical arrival.
Ceded with emerald green feathers and a pink red peak, the ring -ring parakeets have become the star attraction in the Waterworks Park.
Originally from the Himalayas, the Indian subcontinent and parts of Africa, the Ring neck parakeets are regularly seen throughout the United Kingdom, with large populations in London and the southeast of England.
It is estimated that around 15 of these parrots have found a new home in Cavehill’s foothills.
The RSPB describes the Ring neck, sometimes known as rose rings perquisites, as the only naturalized parrot in the United Kingdom.
Dot Blakely, an expert in birds who teaches bird observation courses in Belfast Metropolitan College and Queen’s University Belfast (QB), said it takes students to the park to study new residents.
“The parakeets are likely to have come from London,” he said. “They are likely to move to the Republic of Ireland before ascending.”
“We are seeing that more birds are found due to climate change, so many birds that we would have seen here before.
“People still consider it a tropical bird, but it has adapted.”

Mrs. Blakely told BBC News or that she believes that there are about 13 to 15 parakeets living in the park, which indicates that they are receiving enough food to hold a small colony and that they are probably reproducing.
“There are many berries around the area, but many locals are leaving seeds for them,” he added.
“Sometimes you will see birds in people’s windows waiting to be fed.”

Brilliant birds have been attracting fond of parking photographers.
Sharon Gregg, who began to be diagnosed with a rare disease, told BBC News or spend time in nature and see birds have had a positive effect on their well -being.
“When I first heard on the birds last month, I would say:” I am far to look for the parrots. ”
“People would think I was angry,” he said.
Mrs. Gregg has photographed eight parakeets in one before.
“I think the parakeets are so wonderful and special birds and many people do not realize that they are in the trees above them,” he said.
“They are really comic and shameless things, and they are a pleasure to see.”

Michael Latham, from Bangor, is an enthusiastic Twitcher, someone who does everything possible to see new species of birds.
He has traveled to the area to see birds several times in recent years.
“The number has grown a little in recent times,” he said.
“There are legs reports, but we believe there is only one man.”
Jimi Hendrix launched the parakeets?

Are the parakeets an invasive species?

Periquitos are a non -native bird, so they are classified as an invasive species.
Conor McKinney, the president of Wild Belfast, said: “Periquitos may seem like a new addition to our wildlife, but really represent a great risk to birds, bats and agriculture.
“The parakeets have the ability to overcome the native cavities nesting species, such as starlings, and it is known that the bats of their schedules evict,” he said.
“It is possible to prevent the additional dispersion of this species, but it must happen soon.
“We call the Belfast City Council and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency that return the birds to captivity and deny any potential risk of greater propagation.”
