The 45 -year -old man was arrested around 3.30 pm on March 31 and was tasks for Romford’s custody suite.
He was accused and arrested to appear before the court on April 2.
Around 3.30 in the morning of April 2, Custody staff found that the man does not respond a duration of a cell control, said the Independent Police Conduct (IAPC) office.
Police staff gave CPR, and an ambulance was requested, however, it was declared dead around 4 am
On April 7, a post mortem exam was completed, and the guard dog is now waiting for the results of more evidence.
The coroner has been informed and an investigation will be opened in due time.
The director of IAPC, Amanda Rowe, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of man, and all those affected by his death.
“Now we have with your family to explain our role and we have advised them about the next steps.
“It is important that an independent investigation be carried out to completely establish the circumstances when someone has died in police custody.
“We will make sure that the family of man and force remain informed as our research progresses.”
IAPC researchers are reviewing the CCTV images of the custody suite and the images of the officers who stop.
He is also reviewing the custody records and will be forcing the relevant custody personnel involved.
