The fire exploded on a floor on the first floor at the institute’s place on Sunday (April 13) at 8 pm
Multiple stations firefighters, including Stoke Newington and Bethnal Green, controlled the situation at 8.55 pm
No injuries were reported.
The cause is under investigation.
Traffic interruptions are expected since fire crews remain on the scene.
The fire was in a five -story residential block.
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: “Ten Fire Department and around 70 firefighters responded to a fire in Institute Place, Hackney.
“The fire was located on a floor on the first floor, in a five -story residential block. Traffic in the surrounding area will be affected as the crews remain on the scene. There are no reports of injuries.
“The brigade was first called the incident at 7.59 PM, and control officers mobilized Stoke Newington, Bethnal Green, Homerton and firefighters surrounding firefighters.
“Firefighters had the incident under control at 8.55 pm
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade Fire Research Team.”
