Matt Vail de Datavant analyzes the digital transformation and sustainability in the health technology sector after the Irish expansion of the company.
Matt Vail is the technology director (CTO) in Datavant, an American company that develops and maintains a digital ecosystem for the exchange of medical care data.
Recently, Datavant expanded to Ireland with the opening of a global R&D center in Galway, with initial plans for 125 new jobs in engineering and technology.
“It was great to help the introduction of data data to the Ireland technological community in our Galway launch event at the end of March,” said Vail, who was present at the launch.
With more than 20 years of experience in the design and creation of software products, Vail joined Datavant in 2020 as Chief of Engineering in Product Development. In November 2023, it was his current role as Cto.
“My role is to guarantee the integrity of the data we exchange and the optimal functionality of our technological infrastructure as we innovate to help our clients solve some of the most complex problems in medical care,” he says.
“I am guided by the opinion that the transformation of human health begins to unlock processable ideas of the world’s fixed clinical data.”
What are some of the greatest challenges he faces in the current IT panorama and how do you go to them?
The landscape of IT of medical care evolves continuously as the volume of data proliferates exponentially. Our team focuses on several areas that are fundamental for our ability to do business.
Security. This is a continuous evolutionary landscape with constantly more sophisticated and shameless cybercriminals. We continually evaluate our security posture and invest a lot in our internal teams, as well as in the technologies that we take to ensure that we stay ahead of emerging risks.
Talent acquisition. We constantly strive to hire the brightest talent that we can find in all sectors of technology: infrastructure, safety, software development, data engineering, data science, etc., the expansion in the expansion of the presence to a large extent of the presence of the ones in which.
Regulatory and compliance complexity. Healthcare is a highly regulated space with variable regulations from customer to client, state, state and country to country. Navigating this complexity, while guaranteeing compliance, raises additional challenges, especially as regulations continually evolve around data protection, interoperability standards and AI.
We incorporate very early compliance considerations in the software development life cycle and we associate ourselves very closely with the legal and security and security equipment to ensure that what we are delivering is compatible today as flexible enough.
What do you think about digital transformation in a broad sense within your industry? How do you address it in your company?
We have seen a seismic change in medical care in the last 10 years through the provision of care, clinical research, payment operations, health system administration and patient experience, mainly driven through advances in technology, policies and cultural changes.
Medical care organizations are investing in improving operational efficiencies by digitalization of their workflows involved in clinical care, income cycle management, health information management and general administration. Datavant digital connectivity solutions help manage and rationalize the exchange of data between patients, suppliers, payers, lawyers, government organizations and many other entities safely and fulfilled.
With these safe digital connections, we can improve and allow experiences of patients and other products that help improve operations throughout the medical care ecosystem. We are also having advanced AI capacities to solve defined problems with the aim of improving the interoperability and usability of medical care data while maintaining high data protection standards.
Sustainability has become a key objective for companies in recent years. What do you think about how this can be addressed from a perspective of you?
We take our response seriously to minimize the environmental impact of IT operations while supporting commercial objectives and Datasavant promotion. We are focusing our efforts on several priority areas:
Cloud optimizations. We regularly monitor and optimize our use of cloud calculation to reduce waste and improve efficiency. This effort requires continuous investment in observability to trace and attribute the consumption of resources at the service and product level. Recently, we housed a cloud optimization hackon, completing 29 initiatives that collectively reduced our trace in the cloud to approximately 6pc.
Cloud migrations. We are in the process of migrating any local remuneration system to our hyperscaleros suppliers of the cloud. This transition is driven by the benefits of energy costs and efficiency, since cloud suppliers generally sacrifice a more sustainable infrastructure through a better use of the server and access energy sources.
IA solutions. We carefully monitor the calculation and energy costs of our AI workloads. To minimize unnecessary use, we level models based on complexity and cost, using lighter weight models to filter the low value volume before converting more models more intensive in resources. This approach helps reduce both spending and energy consumption.
Remote hybrid workforce. Feer Emissions is a benefit of not demanding colleagues traveling to the office every day. In Galway, our employees will be asked to be in the office two or three days per week.
What do you think about how we can address the security challenges that are currently facing their industry?
Security is not simply a technical challenge, but a strategic imperative that supports Datasavant’s mission in the health technology sector. By adopting a holistic and proactive approach, we trust our ability to protect delicate data, maintain the confidence of our patients and partners and ensure that safety remains a strategic facilitator as the scale.
Paramount is in health technology, safety. Datavant covers a zero trust model, emphasizing verification at each access point. Identity and access management, third -party risk management and security awareness training are key components of our strategy. We exceed compliance standards and take advantage of automation to improve the detection and response of threats. Our incident response program minimizes the impact of violation and our security approach adapts to our global footprint.
