This article was written by coach Gavin Murphy, based on his experience in Sacramento Duration, the summer of 2019.

He always has a dream of mine to train in the United States, specifically in California, and last summer I had to do exactly that. They offered me the position of “Camp Counselor” in a Saccer/Futsal Company, based in Sacramento, in northern California.
After some delays, I collected my passport (with visa) at 6 in the morning of June 7. When leaving the collection office, I reserved my flight for 11 am on June 7. I got home, I packed my bags and went to the airport.
Twelve hours later, I was terrified in San Francisco, where four English coaches were waiting for. Unfortunately, we had to organize our trip from San Francisco to a hotel somewhere near Sacramento, anyway reach the hotel at the end of the event. We had all Saturday to do what we wanted, we all go to folsom to drink some drinks, but we didn’t stay too much because we had a company training the next day.
The company’s training showed us how to establish the tone with the team we had; 4 large cones, 50 small cones, 4 sizes four football, 4 size five football and some bibs (pine nuts). We were shown football habits (to catch, football boxes, etc.) that would begin our sessions. We were tasks for a mobile phone store where we give SIM cards (our telephone bills would be paid). Then we move back to the company’s office, where we set up a Google Drive and Calendar account. We also assigned our schedules and where we would stay; Three coaches would stay with host families, two would stay in a department of interest and we were giving keys to one of the three cars. After all the logistics was organized, we undertook the apartment or the host family. I would keep a host family, mom (soccer coach) and dad, two young children and three puppies.
Monday, the first day of the football camp that lasted from 9 am to 12 pm I was there with two other coaches, one working with the guardians and another working with young players (from 6 to 11 years old). I worked with players from 12 to 14 years old. We were giving sessions to run throughout the week and we ended each with a thematic competition, giving the winners with colored wrist bands at the end of the week. After twenty minutes of executing my session, I realized that the session that Leg Givven had was too basic for the players I was working with, so I adapted and tried to make it more fun and more realistic.
Twelve in Punto Roda, and we headed and headed back to where we stayed for lunch. I had 3 groups that night; A team of U10 girls, a child U13 and a group of children U11, ending at 8 pm I delivered the basic session that the company gave me, but we (as coaches) discussed by email with the club’s coaches in what their teams needed to work. Then I had to design a training plan for six or twelve weeks and load each session on Google Drive. I trained every morning at the camp that week and every night. I did not finish before 8 pm it was great, training football in the Sun of California and receiving the payment for it! I was already planning to extend my contract beyond October …
Pootoly, my schedule began to be more busy. I was doing one by one with a child twice a week. Friday was particularly agitated; On a twenty -minute trip to the camp, in the camp for three hours, twenty minutes by car from the house, thirty minutes by car from the session, twenty minutes by Futsal’s car, leaves the room soccer field at 9:30, another twenty minutes home. The comments of my sessions were good and I was up to date with all my other tasks. I lowered my head and continued with things.
On Saturday, I would see some of the teams that I was training and then an evaluation of them and send it to the coach. We got free Sunday. In mid -summer it was incredible to us; Camp in the morning, a break in the afternoon, then training every night.
I may manage to order my social security number after six weeks of wages. I was excited about how they were going to pay my foot because or how many hours of training I was doing. When they paid me, I couldn’t believe how well I was being compensated. My motivation has immediately made a success. One of the youngest coaches, who was nostalgic and to reverse any other food that is not chips and chicken tenders, decided to return home after a second fall with the owner of the company, that the Meean sessions had to be covered by the removing training.
I moved to the apartment and slug in an inflatable individual bed for two weeks before one of the coaches moved with a host family.

Every night, he returned home, ate and had some kind of administrator to do, either writing evaluation cards for players in the camp, planning sessions, matches of matches, six -week team evaluations. But salaries made it very difficult to enjoy anything. I was paying rent on a floor back home. He was basically paying for the privilege of Coaching in California. We had to pay the car rental we handle, we also had to pay the fuel. A car was so bad with the fuel that we did is better to avoid driving it. Who stayed in the apartment had to pay the rent. All this while the owner was making a fortune of our work. We were training about one hundred children a week.
The man had enough, particularly after the company’s secretary told me to pay for a broken car myself. I went to the office and spoke with the owner and his secretary about how low they were my salaries and that I would return home because it was not sustainable. What they paid me did not reflect the work I was doing. There was an argument. I was tolerated if I were early, they would not pay my flight (which would cost me at least £ 700). I drowned when I talked about leaving some of the teams I was working with. I am extremely loyal with any player I work with, and never because it disappoints anyone. My resignation was accepted, but they told me that it would be necessary in the form of an email. I returned to the apartment, I opened my laptop to write the email. I received a call from the owner, stating that they did not pay me correctly due to my tax code or something, and the coach would distribute extra money from the sessions for the last time by the coach who had returned home. Hey, I didn’t have the balls to ask me to stay. I didn’t want to leave, and I convinced myself that I would get the payment day more. I got more, but I was still close to what I expected. After the office broke, I knew that even if I wanted to extend my contract, they wouldn’t have me. I did not write the resignation email.
The camps ended, that we had to work less hours. I would go to the gym in the morning and then execute sessions at night. Team contracts began to finish since schools was the way to return. I ended up staying with the most host families. One was an older lady with an old dog. His grandson played football, so everyone obtained discount rates with the company. And a family with parents of a boy and a girl, her grandfather and three rabbits.
On the last day, we returned the cars (clean) and the team, and the three go to the San Francisco airport, and fly home.
In conclusion, I managed to register at least three hundred hours of coaching in four months. That is the experience I can tell, and it is an experience that thesis training companies are selling. Do not go out to America as I hope to be compensated fairly, you won. I would like to love and train in California, but only if the money is correct.
The camps lasted about six weeks, Monday through Friday, players who could not kick a ball to the players who were very good. I also trained from Monday to Friday. The earliest beginning was at 430 PM had two U8, U10 Girls, U11 Boys, U12 Boys, two teams of Boys U13, U14 Boys, one week from Futsal Camp (where only one player wore the right shoes), Futsal football on Friday night with boys U10 and girls U14, two individual sessions, coincide observations and handled two. clinicians
This may seem that everything I do is pursue money, but I have invested a lot of my own time and money in myself, and I take the profession quite in series.
