If you plan to explore the dolomites but because to venture beyond the well -folated roads of Curtina and Val Gardena, then you must add the small picturesque cities or San Martino Di Castrozza to your itinerary. It is surrounded by the pale mountains of San Martino, a region often overlooked but absolutely beautiful of the South Dolomites. The area is covered with impressive hiking routes, epic through isolated ferrata and mountain shelters. The landscape is incredible, which makes it one of my favorite favorite hiking destinations in northern Italy.

The practical aspects
When to visit: End of June at the end of September.
How long to get there: Three full days is the perfect amount of time.
Where to stay: There is a complete range or accommodation options from Airbnbs, to guest houses and hotels. I recommend Chalet Bralet Delle Nasse and Cima Rosetta.
How to get: The nearest airport is Venice, from there you can pick up a rental car and lead San Martino Di Castrozza in a couple of hours.
How to move: Rent a car, especially if you want to continue and explore other areas of the dolomites on your trip.
Price: San Martino Di Castrozza is a bit cheaper than the best known cities of Dolomites, but it is not yet an affordable means. Costs can accumulate rapidly with accommodation, car rental, cupcakes and ski elevators. I recommend the budget accordingly.

The three best walks in San Martino Di Castrozza
The pale loop di San Martino
If there is a walk you do in the region, do this. It takes you through the heart of the Palas mountain range, through two incredible mountain cabins along the way. The landscape is always changing with fixed moons, resistant towers and green pastures. It is honestly the gift you continue to give! Althegh, it is worth noting that there is a considerable section of the path (with cables). This can be easily completed without any equipment, but you are afraid of heights, I rob something through Ferrata Gear with you.
- Distance: 12 km
- Elevation: 900m
- Difficulty: Advanced intermediate (you should feel comfortable by completing steep ascents, insured narrow passages and descending in the Scree).
- Where to eat: ROSETTA RIFUGIO OR RIFUGIO PRADIDALI
- Path folder: Gentleman.
Van Venegia to Rifugio Volpi to Mulaz
All I can say about this walk is wow. The landscape is impressive all the way along the way, with the increasingly epic views as the walk takes place. I honestly impressed! It begins in the Valle de Vengia, which is a portion of the Alpine sky, and then ascends to Rifugio Volpi to Mulaz, a remote mountain cabin located between dramatic peaks. I recommend going a little beyond rifugio to conquer Mulaz Summit or Sasso Arduini if you have energy and weather.
- Distance: 14 km
- Elevation: 1000m
- Difficulty: Advanced intermediate (this is not a technical walk, but it needs resistance to complete the long and spicy ascent).
- Where to eat: Mulaz rifugio
- Path: Gentleman.

Baita Segantini and Monte Castellaz
This is a bit more gentle, friendly to the family and easy to access the walk, which, therefore, can be very busy. It is worth fighting for crowds, since you are rewarded with impressive views for your efforts. However, I recommend completing the early path in the morning or later in the afternoon if you are looking for loneliness. The walk begins in Paspa Rolle and takes multiple mountain huts, picturesque ridges, alpine lakes and even a summit! If you are looking for a place at sunset, this route provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the pale peaks of San Martino lit in the light of the golden night.
- Distance: 9 km
- Elevation: 440m
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate
- Where to eat: Capanna or Baita Segantini rifugio
- Path folder: Gentleman.
Via Ferrata Bolver Lugli
Now I know that this is not a walk, but I simply have to mention this through the Ferrata Escalada route. It is perhaps my favorite throughout the dolomites, and that is to say something! The views are absolutely amazing all the way through ascent and descent. The climber is technically too challenging, but it would still classify this as advanced through ferrata due to the long approach, climb and return. Do not underestimate it, it is a serious test of resistance and strength. But you are rewarded by your efforts with an incredible, beautiful and remote experience in the heart of the pale Di San Martino.
- Distance: 8.5 km
- Elevation gain: 1250m
- Difficulty: Advanced
- Where to eat: Rifugio Rosetta (serves some of the best foods in Los Dolomitas).
- Ascent information: Gentleman.

Do you have more time?
If you want to experience a several days walk in Los Dolomites, then I can incubate the Palaronda walk through the pale Di San Martino. This is a four -day route through the heart of the mountain group, which stays in different shelters every night, the perfect way to complete to immerse yourself in the region.
