BRP holders have recently been informed of a change announced by the office at home with respect to the United Kingdom BRP cards that expire on December 31, 2024. This change is due to the introduction of EVISA. BRP are being converted and replaced by Evisas. The expiration date refers only to the BRP document and not to the owner’s immigration state: the part of its current physical documents will not affect its status or permission to enter or remain in the United Kingdom.
An EVISA is an online record of the immigration system of an individual curated by visas and immigration of the United Kingdom. This change will not affect its immigration status or permits to remain in the United Kingdom.
Who is required to request an EVISA?
All people who are not British citizens will request an electronic visit, including those with permanent status or an indefinite permit to remain in the United Kingdom.
What are the benefits of an EVISA?
- Unlike physical documents, EVISA are digital documents that cannot be stolen, lost or altered.
- It is a faster process to test your immigration status on the border.
- People can amend and update any detail immediately with their UKVI account without waiting and collect physical documents.
- People can grant third parties, as owners and employers, limited access to their immigration state.
- Travelers’ identities are safe and personal data are monitored.
Why do I need to create a UKVI account?
The possession of an UKVI account will allow you to keep a clear record online of your immigration status.
You can use your BRP to help you create a UKVI account, which will allow you to access your EVISA. The home office recommends creating an account before its BRP expires to avoid delays in demonstrating their rights.
For people who already have an UKVI account and an EVISA, it is recommended that you verify that all personal data are updated and correct. Follow the link to verify your data.

Verification list prior to trip for travelers in the United Kingdom
- Verify EVISA’s details: Make sure your E-Visa has all the right and updated details. In case of an error, take the necessary steps to solve it immediately.
- Verify the state of the visa: Log in your UKVI account and confirm if your visa is linked to your current passport.
- BRC/BRP DOCUMENTS: If your biometric residence card (BRC) or biometric residence permit (BRP) expires on December 31, 2024, you must still carry the expired document until March 31, 2025. Your carrier can request it to see it.
- Get a sharing code: You can obtain a code of shares of your UKVI account to prove your required immigration status. You need a stable Internet connection for this.
Can I share my immigration status with airlines while traveling international?
You can access your immigration status in the View and Test of the Visas and Immigration Account of the United Kingdom (UKVI) and generate a code to share with your air carrier in case you request it. The airline can use the code to obtain limited access to its immigration status information. Each actions code is valid for 90 days. Make sure the pin information coincides with the details in your UKVI account, including other travel documents that you use to travel. It allows you to have a soft verification and avoid any travel discomfort.
Can a father or tutor manage a child’s UKVI account?
All those who have a BRP must have their own visa and immigration account of the United Kingdom, including children under 18 years. However, a father or guardian channels the account in his name. To create an UKVI account for a child, you need an identity document of a child and a date of birth.
Once the child turns 18 and can administer his account, the account can be transferred to them. You can update the phone number and email address using the UKVI account update service. It is essential to keep your data in your updated account to avoid interruptions of travel on the United Kingdom border.
Do BRP holders need an ETA of the United Kingdom?
BRP holders with EVISA valid do not need to obtain an electronic travel authorization (ETA) to re -enter the United Kingdom, since its immigration state is already digitally recorded.
However, if a head of BRP travels to another country that requires an ETA, it must guarantee compliance with the specific entry requirements of that country.
